DEADPOOL (WITH NO CABLE) #43-44: With Friends Like These?

These issues begin a real change to this series, which ultimately will have a different title on the cover of each issue to denote who Deadpool is teaming up with–since Cable is dead.  It starts with the cover to #43 being titled “Wolverine and Deadpool.”

At a memorial to Cable, Cyclops tells Deadpol that Wolverine, who has gone full rogue, is going to attack a Hydra base and kill everyone there.  Normally, Deadpool wouldn’t care about that kind of thing but his friend Hydra Bob is there and Deadpool wants to save him.

In his final issues, Fabian Nicieza decides he’s just going to play with Marvel’s toybox, starting with Wolverine’s revenge on Deadpool.

He cuts the dude’s head off.

Wolverine then proceeds to kill the Hydra agents including one who calls himself “The Penetrator” while Hydra Bob reattaches Deadpool’s head.

Slapstick humor is challenging in comics because it’s all about timing and movement, but it’s done well here.

They fight some more and Deadpool is able to rescue his friend.

At the end, Deadpool is accidentally teleported back to World War II for next story’s team up with Captain America.
