Daredevil vs Hulk. This is one of my all-time favorite Daredevil stories (full list here).
And Daredevil loses. Which is cool because he should lose, but usually in stories like this the writer does something dumb to match the abilities of an extremely overpowered and underpowered character.
DD ends up in the hospital after the fight, but while he is there we see that Ben Urich is working on an expose.
Urich visits DD’s bedside (after a bunch of other heroes, having cameos) to tell him, and, surprisingly, Daredevil comes clean–revealing he is Matt Murdock. This enables a full retelling (and retconning) of Daredevil’s origin.
It’s actually less of a retcon, and more of adding flesh to the skeleton. DD gets revenge on his father’s killer by, literally, scaring him to death. From his first costumed adventure, then, the Man Without Fear understood the nature of fear. In later issues, Miller would explore in greater detail the adventures of young Daredevil–particularly when Elektra arrives.
Ben gives up the story for the greater good of New York City.
Only one criticism of these issues: If DD has a head injury with a bandage, why is his skull-mask on UNDER the bandage?
