This was drawn by Jack Kirby, not Rich Buckler. Look closely at the bottom. It’s signed “Best wishes, Jack Kirby”. Funny I should spot this on the “EMB”, this morning. Just a couple of hours ago, I was recalling the duel between these two from 1995’s “DC Versus Marvel”- you know, the one where, after grappling for several hours down in a big-city sewer, someone above flushes the toilet, which shoots a geyser of sewage into the Living Legend’s face, distracting him just long enough for the Caped Crusader to take him down with a well-placed Batarang, right between the eyes! It’s too bad Batman had to cheat- I was hoping for a fair match, mano-a-Batmano, sans weaponry, but, considering the stakes, ( the world ) and how the Dark Knight could not take him down with his bare-hands, I guess a win is a win! That story was drawn by Steve Epting, with whom I am acquainted, ( we share a home-town and alma mater ) and his artwork is at the levels of Adams and Byrne. Steve’s professional mentors/influences are clearly the late titans Neal Adams and John Buscema. Steve is also just one hell of a great guy, a claim that not too many comics professionals can make. If you ever see him at a show, say hello to him, and buy one of his illustrations if you can!
It’s a Jack Kirby illustration!! Again- note the signature at the bottom!! “Best wishes, Jack Kirby”! The reason it looks so strange is because Kirby almost never drew Batman, but that’s his Captain America, through and through! Word up!

I appreciate the correction–it doesn’t look like Jack tho’…Maybe Buckler edited it?
