Captain America by Jim Steranko (1984)

  1. I was not aware that Steranko was still drawing Cap as late as 1984! Not only does it look excellent, but Steranko is one of the very few ‘Cap’ artists who understands just exactly how large and wide that shield would have to be, in order for it to be functionally effective! Read: BIG!! I also appreciate the diameter of the cuffs of Caps’ ‘buccaneer boots’, as rendered by Steranko- very dashing, and swashbuckling! In recent decades, with the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Cap’s costumers have made a deliberate and aggressive effort to scale down the boots’ cuffs- huge mistake! The large, flared cuffs just scream “Hey, world!! Look at ME!!! I’m a star-spangled BADASS!!!” But where were the red stripes on the lower part of the shirt-?? An oversight, I’m guessing-??
