As an unintended consequence of recent mystical events in this title, a powerful being named Morwen is released on Earth. Morwen is drawn to Spider-Man and offers him a mystical power-up. Spidey says “no” and Morwen’s counter offer is, okay, if you don’t want a power up then I’ll just kill you.
Morwen also attracts the attention of several powerful beings.
One of them, Loki, works with Spider-Man to kick her out of the 616 dimension. The big reveal is that Loki is actually the father of the human body possessed by Morwen, and Loki is grateful to Spider-Man for helping free his child. Loki gives him a chit that he can cash in for a favor in the future.
None of this makes much sense as a Spider-Man comic. If I’m Loki and I want to exorcise a demon, I’m going to any number of people before I go to Spidey. Like Doctor Strange, Son of Satan, or any Catholic priest. Maybe the point here is just to establish that Loki owes Spidey a favor now?
Anyway, like everything with JMS attached, it’s written well.
