Okay. A gruesome start for Scott Lobdell’s run on a book that hasn’t been good for a very, very long time. Diablo and Whirlwind have taken over a foreign country, and Diablo uses his chemical powers to torture military leaders. Alpha Flight liberates them.
Meanwhile, Headlok is making Aurora crazy(-er).
What makes these issues important is…
…The first appearance of Weapon Omega. He’s actually Kyle Gibney, who first appeared all the way back in Alpha Flight #1 as Wild Child of the Gamma Flight team.
Since then, the Canadian government has exploited his mutant powers the same way they have in the past with Wolverine, Lady Deathstrike, etc., and turned him into Weapon Omega. He joins Alpha Flight in this issue.
Along the way, USAgent shows up and acts like an ass.
Wild Child’s augmented mutation reveals that there is more experimentation going on, like with Aurora. So it looks like we’ll be seeing a return of the government plot storyline that has been used over and over in this book.
Nothing bad here, but nothing great either. But for Alpha Flight, that’s a step in the right direction.
