The core members of the team we think of when we think of GotG are scattered right now, so we get multiple storylines–and only little pieces of those. The main story features a new lineup, with Rocket Racoon in charge.
Meanwhile, Blastaar tries to force Star-Lord to help him take over the Negative Zone, where he appears to have plans for all the super-powered villains imprisoned there by Reed Richards.
He’ll invade Earth! Next issue will feature the big Neg Zone prison break. Should be cool.
Also, Starhawk indicates that the reason she’s come from the future is to save the future, where we see the “Major Victory” lineup of the Guardians fighting and losing, with several members dying.
And Gamora helps Adam Warlock are taking on the Universal Church.
These last two storylines are gestating–not a lot moves forward in these issues, but sometimes a slow burn can be fun and build momentum. These issues are still very good–just very different from the “event-tie-in” stories we’ve been used to from this group of heroes.
