This story takes us back to the roots of Mister Sinister’s experiments in World War II and the connection to Logan who, at the time, went by James Howlett. In other words, we are shown (or re-shown) the history of the various Weapon X prgrams.
After the war John Sublime, whose Weapon Plus program had been shut down, can team up with Dr. Malcom Colcord, who last story swore he would reboot the Weapon X program. Together, they launched the latest version of the program.
This is all set-up so that we can move to the present day and watch as Fantomex learns that John Sublime’s grave is empty.
Meanwhile, Wolverine was mind-controlled and killed all the Weapon X people … OK, let me stop. I like Fantomex, but even an extended fight against Agent Zero can’t get me to like this.
When everything comes together at the end, Wolverine lunges to kill John Sublime for his role in torturing and weaponizing mutants. Fantomex snatches Wolverine up and flies him into the sky–enabling Sublime to escape.
We see Fantomex and E.V.A. lying “dead” at the end.
No, of course they’re not dead.
I keep wanting to like this series, but it’s so in love with its own darkness that it is impossible to enjoy.
