In issue #3, we get a full-length Satana story–and it’s the first one in the magazine, appearing before the Morbius story advertised on the cover. We learn that she is kind of a vampire–she sucks out people’s “lifeforces” to survive.
Of course it’s by kissing.
She goes after some cult-type people in the story, which portrays her as heroic in that sense, but she also shows callous disregard for human life. Nothing bad here, but it all feels pretty generic.
The other canonical story in this comic is a multi-part Morbius story. Read about it here.
Satana is what we “Night Stalkers” call a ‘succubus’- they draw the life-force out of unwary young people, ( usually men ) and are vampires after their own fashion, hence, this story’s inclusion here in ‘Vampire Tales’- Satana was an engaging character, in her day, but I will agree with Mr. Ekko here in that there is nothing new being covered here. I do not mourn the passing of Marvel’s “monster” phase of the 1970’s- ( 1971-1979 ) although Miss Hellstrom was, as noted, an interesting character for her time. I don’t see succubi having long life-spans in our world, simply due to the hazards of the lives they lead- Unless I am mistaken, the charming Miss Hellstrom herself bought it in the very interesting ‘Marvel Team-Up’#81, in 1980.
