Marv Wolfman becomes series writer, and he will be the one who runs this series for pretty much the rest of its life. He starts by introducing the descendant of John and Mina Harker, Quincy Harker, who is in a wheelchair but has obviously put a lot of thought into how to capture and kill Dracula.
He has neat toys!
Marv then offers up Blade in issue #10.
He is certainly the most enduring, and best, original character emerging from the ToD book. In these issues, Blade actually kills Dracula, but one of Drac’s acolytes revives him.
And we meet Dr. Sun, who is breeding his own version of subservient vampires. Although we first “see” him off panel.
Along the way there are some fairly standard horror stories: Drac stalking kids, a zombie story, Dracula visiting the site of a stageplay about him, a haunted house tale, etc. They’re all good.
There’s not a lot to say about this series. It’s quite good for what it is, but unless you really like ’70s horror books, it’s not worth seeking out old issues.
