A GUIDE TO THE D.C. YOU
DC WHERE?
Missing from the new line-up are, among other books:
- Legion of Superheroes. But this is probably a good choice, since this franchise hasn’t been good in a long, long time.
- Shazam. A movie and no comic? This will change, I’m sure.
- Firestorm, The Atom, and Supergirl. A TV show and no comic? This will change, I’m sure.
- Warlord. When he appeared in Convergence, I thought for sure we’d get a solo book about Mike Grell’s version of Ka-Zar/Tarzan (sorta). This was a surprise.
- Batwoman. My hope is that they realized without Greg Rucka, there’s no good Batwoman, so they decided to pay him all the money he deserves and bring it back correctly. But I know that didn’t happen.
DC P.U.
I don’t know why we needed these: Dark Universe, Green Lantern: Lost Army, Doomed. Also, I was bored by these books: Batman Beyond, Cyborg, Harley Quinn/Power Girl, Justice League 3001, Red Hood/Arsenal, Robin, Starfire.
DC MEH
For these, if you like the characters, you’ll like these books.
- Constantine: The Hellblazer. Why DC would hire Ming Doyle to write and not draw mystifies me. This one didn’t suck, but it wasn’t fresh enough.
- We Are Robin. I like the idea, but the execution just didn’t pan out for me.
- Bat-Mite and Bizarro. Nice try, seriously, but it’s very, very hard to make a good humor comic. But these really did come close. Effort appreciated.
- Black Canary. I didn’t hate it, but I came back for #2. We’ll see if I’m still here by issue five.
- Superman. I’m including this one even though it didn’t get a new #1 because it did get a new writer, Gene Luen Yang. I was really looking forward to this, being a big fan of his creator-owned work, but I have to say the results are underwhelming. It’s still a very good Superman story (especially because most Superman comics are mediocre at best), but it’s not as good as I expected.
