Creator: Roy Thomas
I doubt Roy Thomas is anybody’s favorite writer, but he certainly shouldn’t be anybody’s least favorite. Few people have had a greater influence over superhero comics than Thomas, having worked extensively at both Marvel and DC and, frankly, having been the writer for important, formative issues of The Avengers (e.g., Kree-Skrull War and issue #57) , X-Men (with Neal Adams), Conan, The Defenders, What If?, and Doctor Strange. He left Marvel in the ’70s and became an active critic of editor Jim Shooter.
Thomas had a wide range, creating dozens of diverse (in terms of race, gender, and target audience), unforgettable characters at both of the major publishers, including: Wolverine, Vision, Valkyrie, Tigra, Thundra, Golem, Son of Satan, Captain Carrot, Morbius, Ultron, Luke Cage, DC’s All-Star Squadron and Infinity Inc., The Squadron Sinister/Supreme, Doc Samson, Sunfire, Banshee, Man-Thing, and many, many more.
