I love Steve Gerber, but his work on DD is just not all that interesting. Too bad. So I’m jamming through a bunch of issues.
In this story, Spidey guest stars and they fight a villain called Ramrod.
He has steel skin and can ram through stuff.
They also take on Kraven, there’s more Angar…
…And even some Moondragon and Captain Marvel.
There is patented Gerber weirdness like fights on a rainbow road and eggs that save the world…
The Moondragon part is my favorite…Because they fall in love.
Although, I will say that Moondragon is an immensely powerful character and this really shouldn’t have happened:
I’d give a nickel to know what Moondragon is blathering about in the above panels, in re “…..I’m afraid our respective…….’orientations’…………..towards life, and the cosmos…………….we’re galaxies apart, that way, Daredevil………………I’ve SEEN ‘things’……………..LEARNED ‘things’………………….out among the stars, which you……………which would be beyond ANY Earth-bred intellect, however brilliant……………” Well, we know she’s gay, as a consequence of her relationship with Patsy Walker/Hellcat………….so, what’s all the mystique-??? I guess lesbianism was still just too taboo a topic for funnybooks to tackle head-on, in 1973. ( ahh, the good ol’ days ) Needless to say, as of the quarter-way point of the 21st Century……………….things have changed…………………………
