These are the last issues to carry the “New X-Men” banner. With issue #157, we’re back to just “X-Men.” They immediately follow some of the most interesting and innovative X-Stories of all time, and these issues are written by Chuck Austen.
They’re bad.
They pick up right where Grant Morrison’s final issue left off: At Jean’s grave, with the big Emma/Scott kiss.
They reopen the school and try to rebuild after Magneto blew the place up when he revealed himself as Xorn. There are some problems (a danger room robot got loose, there’s an anti-mutant riot in town, and maybe Cassandra Nova escaped in Magneto’s carnage), but none of it is very interesting, and it ends up right where it started: With Scott at Jean’s grave promising to re-start the school again.
