X-Treme X-Men #40-45 (2004): Prisoner of Fire

This issue starts with Gambit and Rogue kissing.

Bishop runs by, knocking them out of their embrace.

I don’t care for Bishop but this is the best thing he’s done because I really don’t like Gambit. Rogue deserves a much more interesting and much better partner.

Bishop gets taken by the rich evil mutant Elias Bogan. Bogan has a “pet” telepath–a woman who appears as a black shadow. She is able to turn Bishop against the X-Men. The mind-controlled Bishop versus X-Men fight takes up almost all of issue #42. Then the “pet” takes control of more X-Men and there’s more tedious fighting before the big “reveal” of the slave-pet’s identity at the end of issue #44.

Rachel Summers is back.

Next issue will be the final issue.
