The Thing book was John Byrne’s idea, but after a year he’s gotten tired of it and turns it over to Mike Carlin. Not a great loss, since this has easily been Byrne’s least-interesting work for Marvel in the 1980s.
Carlin just continues these pointless Battleworld tales. I say pointless not because every good comic has to be one that “matters,” but because not only do these stories not really “matter” in the Marvel canon sense, but they’re just not very interesting or creative. Over the course of these issues, Thing meets the freak-of-the-week, but he’s hanging out with a barbarian chick and starts to fall in love with her.
It is nice to see Ron Wilson continuing to have a job drawing Thing though.
