Marvel Knights: Spider-Man/Wolverine #1-4 (2003): Stuff of Legends

It’s becoming less clear what the “Marvel Knights” mandate is.  I thought it was about a bunch of street-level characters who team up to fight crime (Daredevil, Black Widow, Punisher, etc.), but now it’s about Marvel’s two biggest-selling characters.

Nick Fury blackmails Spider-Man (by threating to expose his secret identity) into saving Wolverine who is being held on a remote island near Japan.  Turns out, the real target is a mad scientist on the island blah blah blah.

The best thing about this is that it’s narrated by Peter Parker, telling Aunt May the story, and in the end the three of them have pie.

Nothing terrible here.  Nick Fury blackmailing Spidey is odd because there are many others who would have been much better suited for this mission and, if he’s willing to do that, why hasn’t he done it before now?  The art is strange but I can’t say I dislike it—it’s just very different.  The script is fine, the dialogue is fine, the plot is .. Meh.
