Creator: Mark Gruenwald
From self-published fanzine producer to editor and chronology-wizard, Gruenwald is known for using esoteric characters and long-forgotten plotlines. In service of his goal to make sure every single Marvel character, ever, got a little face-time, he created Contest of Champions, oversaw the comprehensive Official Handbook to the Marvel Universe of the ’80s, and created Scourge so that he could bring-back-and-kill supervillains nobody ever heard of. He is best known for rebooting the Squadron Supreme (and explaining their unexplainable canon), a 10-year controversial run on Captain America, and a 5-year Quasar run.
In addition to reviving the forgotten, he had a hand in creating a huge number of new characters including: Madcap, many Serpent Society members, Red Wolf, Crossbones, U.S. Agent, and the New Universe’s DP7.
