The Scorpio storyline from Nick Fury’s book crosses over in a done-in-one. But it’s a really fun issue. First, we see that the team has a table with a big “A” on it and customized chairs. Just like the JLA. I’m not sure why, but I always find these pictures fascinating.
Anyway, the team is told that Nick Fury is dead (by a teary-eyed Dum Dum Dugan), which makes them want to hunt down Scorpio. Rick Jones shows up to tell a piece of the story, but he doesn’t tell them that he’s currently got the ability to switch bodies with Captain Marvel. Frankly, Rick acts like a big baby all sad that Captain America won’t be his partner.
This is also the first appearance of the entire Zodiac crew. A beautiful Buscema spread. And see how every single character gets a word balloon? That’s how they did it in the 1970s. Everyone had a speaking role, even if that meant the “dramatic entrance” would have taken five minutes in real life.
By the end, Fury isn’t dead, there’s a big fight, and everyone goes home happy.
Also, an appearance by future Marvel legendary artist Keith Pollard!
