The promised Stilt-Man appearance doesn’t last long, and sadly Bill Foster doesn’t joint the team.
I totally agree with Ghost Rider: How can Stilt-Man hold off Hercules and Black Goliath??
Then it’s a drama with The Stranger, who built a Null-Life bomb that got stolen and now he and the Champions need to disarm it before it blows up Earth.
Byrne’s art is nice, but The Champions are better suited to non-cosmic threats. They’re supposed to be a B-team, not another Avengers group.
“Byrne’s art is nice” is the understatement of the decade! John Byrne’s pencils could turn even ‘Godzilla’ and ‘Devil Dinosaur and Moon Boy’ into monster ( npi ) hits!!! I dare say that if……….IF………..Marvel could just have retained Byrne’s services on this series, it could have survived cancellation!! By the way, the various members of the Champions are not “D”-listers, as Mr. Ekko claims, but “B”-listers!! A “B”-lister is defined as a very popular character who just isn’t quite strong enough, or popular enough, to maintain their own solo series, and the Angel, the Iceman, the Ghost Rider, Hercules, and the Black Widow all fit that description, although the Ghost Rider has had his ( it’s-?? ) up’s and down’s on the sales charts over the intervening decades. Black Goliath and Darkstar are good examples of “C”-listers- interesting characters, but with absolutely no chance of anchoring a series. Good examples of total “D”-listers would include the aforementioned ‘Godzilla’, ‘Devil Dinosaur and Moon-Boy’, ‘Captain Universe’, ‘The Jack of Hearts’, ‘Woodgod’ ( remember him/it-?? Does anybody-?? ) ‘Skull the Slayer’, ‘Ulysses Bloodstone’, ‘The Torpedo’, ( remember him-?? ) ‘D-Man’, ( how appropriate ) ROM Spaceknight, ‘Monark Starstalker’, ‘The Shroud’, ‘The 3-D Man’, ‘The Phantom Eagle’, ‘The Micronauts’, ‘Ikaris/The Eternals’, and so on, and so on, and so on. So, compared to THESE turkeys, the various members of the Champions are actually superstars!! “A”-listers, even! Word!
I’m happy to see another Byrne fan. Seems like he has become a bit of a fanboy punching bag.
