Nightcrawler teleports himself and Chamber out of the Blackbird right before it is blown up, but it is a “blind teleport” because he is already injured. They end up in the mountains of Germany, at the home of a “fire-eater” from Nightcrawler’s old carny days. A fire-eater meets Chamber. Excellent.
The core of this issue is Nightcrawler wrestling with the increasingly aggressive agenda of the X-Corporation and trying to decide whether to remain a member of the group.
Chamber is a witness to Nightcrawler’s soul-searching, and it has an impact on him, too—making him distrust the core membership (Angel, Iceman, etc.).Very well done, personality-driven story.
