One of the side characters Denny O’Neil introduced during his run is a little-person country singer named Lonesome Pinky. He lives in the same apartment building as Peter Parker, so he shows up from time to time, and in this issue—Denny’s last—he gets his first headline musical gig. But, inevitably, a supervillain really, really wanted the gig so Spider-Man has to get involved to save his neighbor’s big time debut.
Actually, I use the term “super villain” pretty loosely. It’s Ramrod.
And he’s battling for the soul of “real” country music!
O’Neil’s run is somewhat controversial: Many love it, many more seem to hate it, but I’m sure all would agree that this is not really the issue you want to go out with. It’s not terrible, but it’s terribly inconsequential.
But there is a cute little Superman tribute when Peter changes into Spidey in a phone booth.
