For their big #150, it was another “old order changeth” issue with lots of reprinted material from Avengers #1.
Back then, there weren’t trade paperbacks and reprints everywhere for cheapsies, so it was probably kinda cool to read the Lee/Kirby stuff. For some readers, I bet it was the first time.
The team is called to order by a nervous Thor.
Who resigns. Iron Man takes over.
Beast doesn’t seem to want Hellcat on the team.
The lineup questions are very public.
I like that. The public should be obsessed with who is going to be on the team that’s going to save them from aliens.
Throughout is the recap/reprint stuff. By today’s standards, this story was filler.
Actually, by today’s standards you’d never even get to #150. Everything reboots every couple years. I like the high issue #s. Makes me feel like I’m part of something with tradition and history and depth and weight.
The history lessons are fun though, and well-done. Like this primer on Hank Pym.
But he quits.
This is also the first appearance of the MK V armor for Iron Man.
Here’s the new lineup:
No Hellcat!
And at the very end, a creepy cliffhanger…
Interesting to end your run on a cliffhanger.
