X-Men #48-49 (1996)

We start at Thing’s floating poker game: Mutant edition!

That’s always fun.

Dark Beast is spying on Bishop, who is having visions of the Age of Apocalypse.

But Dark Beast is being watched watching Bishop…By Sugar Man.

They recognize that Bishop’s “visions” are actually memories of his own timeline, and that he could jeopardize the possibility of that timeline coming true.

So they send Fatale to destroy him.

Beast intercedes so Dark Beast decides to assimilate him.

But the next issue has nothing to do with it–it’s an Onslaught event issue.

It felt like Lobdell was building up to something here, only to have Onslaught derail it. That’s the problem with these linewide events.
