UNTOLD TALES OF SPIDER-MAN #23-24 (1997)

I’m assuming that moving Busiek to plotting only was due to his increasing profile and responsibilities–editorial wanted to take him off the one dollar mag and focus his efforts on more profitable ongoing series. But UTOSM was a shining star in a very, very dark sky. Why did they replace his scripting with Tom DeFalco?

Oh well. At least Pat Olliffe is still doing the art. Oops. With #24, it’s Bob McLeod (who is also great, by the way).

Issue #23 takes place during the “Crime Master” saga by Lee/Ditko. Issue #24 revives the Untold original villain Batwing. There’s a subplot about Flash and Liz uncovering (another) Spider-Man imposter that runs through these. Solid stories but nothing to write about here.
