Ka-Zar the Savage #33-34 (1984): Series Ends; Legion of Cancelled Heroes

Ka-Zar’s brother, Parnival Plunder, is stealing Savage Land Vibranium when he comes across a mystical bone.  Shanna and Zabu get captured trying to stop him, Ka-Zar goes to rescue them, and Parnival dies in the process.  And then the mystical bone teleports all three of the heroes into outer space where they get involved in a space battle.  Ka-Zar is way out of his element, obviously.  But we learn that Savage Land was created by an alien race called the Nuwali.

There’s a note from editor Denny O’Neil telling readers that the book is cancelled but will return as a “regular” (i.e., not direct-market only) book.  That doesn’t happen for many, many years.

Then, after the Nuwali story Ka-Zar goes to the “Land of Cancelled Heroes,” where he meets a bunch of other guys whose books have been cancelled.  It’s silly, but kind of fun.

Here’s the final panel:

He won’t get another series until 1997.
