On the title page, it asks to imagine what the team would have looked like if first conceived of by today’s “hottest” creators.
No, Jim Krueger and Matt Smith were definitely not the hottest creators of 1998. They do a good job with it, but that’s not why I’m noting what it says on the title page. I do so because, several years after this, in 2001, Marvel actually DOES rebirth a new universe, from the start, by the hottest creators of the time: The Ultimate Universe.
I thought it was cool to note the seeds of that concept being sown, here.
