Rick Jones gets mugged, and a nega band is stolen. The mugger pawns the nega band. Rick tries to kill himself over losing the band(!), which seems like an extreme, out-of-character reaction. But it ends with a homeless woman giving birth on Christmas.
This is not Peter David’s best work.
